2019 Motocross of Africa Nations

Race Report conducted by our sponsored rider, Johan Volgelesang

The 2019 Motocross of Africa Nations took place at Donnybrook Motocross track in Zimbabwe. This is an awesome event and one of the highlights of my racing calendar every year. I was very happy with how my weekend went considering elements outside of my control.

Practice 1 went very well I really enjoyed the layout of the Donnybrook track. I was 2nd fastest for the majority of the practiced and got demoted to 4th on the last lap. 2nd Practice I really wanted to finish inside the top 3 and managed to qualify 3rd fastest heading into race 1.

Race 1 I got off to a decent start in 3rd place unfortunately dropped to 4th and by lap 3 lost my rear brakes due to them overheating. I managed to hold a decent pace and catch up to 3rd but could not make a pass stick.

Race 2 I got off to a better start and was lying in 3rd until I made a mistake all by myself in the 2nd corner where I lost grip and went down the crash resulted in a damaged front brake line which caused me to lose my front brake, again I managed to hold a good pace and caught up to 3rd by the end of the race where I set my fastest lap of the race on the last lap unfortunately left it too late again and got a 4th.

Heading into the final race for the weekend I was feeling really good and looking to get redemption from the first two heats. Again I found myself in 4th this time without any bike problems I made a push to catch up to 3rd as I was about to make the pass the rider in 3rd collided with me leaving me stuck in a hay bale with two laps to go I put on a charge and made up 9 sec to 3rd place by setting my fastest lap of the race on the last lap but unfortunately again fell short of the podium spot I was looking for.
