9 March 2019 – Race Report conducted by our sponsored rider, Ruwaldo Smith – Rider Number #222
I finished an Extraordinary 2018 in the MX Intermediate Class with an Overall Win for the year carrying the red Plate into 2019. The year was hard and my overall standing in the middle of the season was 3rd. The winter season opened in July and I Started a Winning streak from there. With three consecutive 1st places in the first 3 races. I made my way to an overall points lead for 2018 with one round to go in Bloemfontein. I had to end at least 2nd to win the champion ship by 1 point. In Practice I had a severe Crash almost ending my day and loss of any chance to win the Championship. I Fought through the pain and Managed to take overall Second place for the day, Winning the Intermediate MX Championship for 2018.
I Knew 2019 will be a Great year, as a Rooky in the MX1 Pro Class. This is a great opportunity to build my self
The 2019 Free State Regional Championship had a downward Spiral at round 1 in Welkom where I Finished 5th in the first head and Ended Up DNF in 2nd and 3rd Heat. Putting me at a point’s loss early in the MX Season.
Working towards round 2 in Bloemfontein I redrafted and focused on looking forward. As it is my Rooky year in MX1 Pro class this season will make or break the basis for 2020. Coming into round 2 was really focused on not making mistakes and making sure my fitness can go the distance. In the first Heat I got pushed out wide on the start, but worked my way back from 14th. At the end of Heat 1, I was 8th and gaining ground on 7th but there was just not enough time to make up the ground.
Unforeseen weather cancelled heat 2 and 3. Resulting in the Overall 8th for the day.
I realised that I could not keep my Full Pace throughout the Race even though I made up ground, and my focus will stay on fitness as I Know that is key for me to Jump a Position.
